Job Description
Puget Sound Energy’s Business Energy Management (BEM) group is looking for three (3) Energy Management Engineers to support the industrial energy management program, clean buildings program, and building performance team. You will work closely with customers to develop projects that produce sustainable energy savings. This work involves visiting customer facilities, evaluating energy consumption data, recommending energy efficiency measures to customers, calculating project energy savings, developing incentive documentation, and creating measurement & verification plans.
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is working to build a clean energy future. By 2030, PSE will have a carbon neutral electric supply and will reduce customer emissions from our natural gas business by 30% while balancing safety, sustainability, reliability and affordability. PSE’s Business Energy Management group is a major contributor to these goals providing financial incentives, technical assistance, and project development support to assist PSE’s commercial and industrial customers implement efficiency projects.

Specific Role Summaries
1. Energy Management Engineer – Industrial Team: This EME position will support the growth of the Industrial Energy Management program which includes ISEM, ISOP, and Small Industrial customers, with a focus on increasing gas efficiency targets. You will be assessing a wide-variety of industrial facilities that may have substantial technical complexity. Your experience should include having experience in industrial energy efficiency program or projects that focus on O&M savings and strategic energy management (SEM) in addition to capital improvement projects.
2. Energy Management Engineer – Clean Buildings Team: This EME position will focus on managing the Clean Building’s Accelerator program. The EME will work with customers to provide onsite energy audit support, develop custom grant projects, and connect customers with appropriate trade ally contractors.
3. Energy Management Engineer – Building Performance Team: This EME position will focus on a minimum of 10 portfolio customers participating in the Commercial Strategic Energy Management (CSEM) program. You should feel comfortable with regression analysis and one-on-one customer support to deepen energy savings with each customer.
Job Responsibilities
• Work closely with customers and contractors to develop projects that produce cost-effective and persistent energy savings
• Evaluate energy consumption from meter data, collect data through sub-metering and system trend-logging, perform energy assessments
• Recommend measures for improving energy efficiency either through changes in operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or system and equipment replacement
• Support the BEM team by developing and delivering programs for customers, and contributing to the on-going development of program support materials including templates, analysis calculators, and reference documents
• Understands proper operation of building systems and familiarity with common energy-consuming equipment in the industrial and/or commercial sector
• Communicate with all levels of a customers’ organization, and effectively transfer skills and knowledge to internal or external audiences
• Perform regression modeling to predict energy consumptions in industrial/commercial facilities
• Provide financial payback and green-house gas reasoning to customers in addition to energy savings
• Implement projects and programs while ensuring compliance of all tariffs and financial procedures
• Successfully and professionally market our energy efficiency programs to eligible customers and various organizations in the industrial and/or commercial sector
• Maintain productive contractor relationships to ensure ongoing successful project development and follow-through
• Perform periodic education speaking engagements with customer groups, contractors and sponsorship organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
• Extensive experience in energy efficiency project planning, design, specification review (typically achieved after 3 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
• Demonstrated project and/or program management skills managing energy efficiency projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Ability to work effectively and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers.
Desired Qualifications
• ABET Accredited degree in Mechanical, Energy, Civil, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering
• Energy assessment and project development experience
• Energy management experience, including system optimization, commissioning, strategic energy management experience
• Regression analysis and whole facility M&V methodology
• Customer service experience
• Utility industry experience
• Relevant industry credentials in energy efficiency including AEE CEM certification, BOC certification, LC,LEED AP, and/or Professional Engineering License
