State Building Code Council Update
State Building Code Council gears up for another round of updates to state building codes |
First technical advisory group meeting is Nov. 30Technical advisory groups for the Washington State Building Code Council will begin meeting Nov. 30 to analyze and make recommendations for changes to the state’s building code. Codes specify minimum requirements to help safeguard the health, safety and welfare of building occupants. The national model building codes are updated every three years. For the state building code, these codes are evaluated and modified to ensure they address Washington’s needs and current legislative energy policy. Groups in Washington also can request code changes, which are considered during the update process. The Council’s recently updated rules require the Council to adopt a timeline that establishes the submission period for proposed state amendments to the building code. The Building Code Council updated both its state rules and council bylaws in 2017 to improve clarity and transparency and to ensure a fair process for all stakeholders as building code updates are adopted. Learn more on the council’s web page. The Building Code Council will review technical advisory group recommendations and model codes during 2018 and 2019 for implementation in 2020.
