 President’s Message
Hello Puget Sound ASHRAE Members,

Welcome to a new ASHRAE year!

I’m excited (and a little humbled) to be writing my first newsletter as Chapter President. Our chapter has a long history of outstanding volunteers, technical excellence, and industry leadership, and I’m looking forward to working alongside all of you this year.

It was great to see many familiar faces at the 2026 ASHRAE Annual Conference and reconnect with members from across the Society. I always leave these events energized by the ideas, conversations, and passion of our members.

As I look ahead, there are three areas I’d love for us to focus on together this year:

Giving back to our community. Our industry has a wealth of knowledge and talent, and I believe we can make an even greater impact through volunteerism, outreach, mentoring, and community involvement.

Supporting students and scholarships. Our student branches are the future of our profession. I want us to continue growing opportunities for students through scholarships, mentoring, networking, and stronger connections with our local universities.

Building relationships across organizations. Some of the best events and conversations happen when we get outside our usual circles. Whether it’s partnering with ASPE, AIA, City of Seattle, SMACNA, or other industry groups, cross-organization collaboration makes all of us stronger.

We’re kicking off the year early with a couple of great opportunities to get involved. On July 16, ASHRAE YEA is partnering with ASPE Western Washington for a forging and networking event at Lawless Forge—a fun chance to connect with industry peers in a unique setting.

Then on July 24, we’ll hold our annual Puget Sound ASHRAE Volunteers Retreat, one of the most important events of the year for chapter planning. We’ll be bringing together committee chairs, board members, current volunteers, and anyone interested in getting involved to brainstorm ideas, set goals, and shape the direction of the chapter for the 2026-2027 Society year. If you’ve ever wondered how to become more involved with ASHRAE, this is the perfect place to start. Lunch will be provided. Please fill out the Call for Volunteers if you are interested in joining us.

We’ll also be looking ahead to the 2026 Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) in Honolulu this August, where chapter leaders from across Regions X and XI will come together to share ideas, develop leadership skills, and learn from one another. I’m looking forward to representing Puget Sound ASHRAE and bringing back new ideas that will help our chapter continue to grow and thrive.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved with the chapter, this is your invitation. We’d love to have you join a committee, attend an event, mentor a student, or simply share ideas. Puget Sound ASHRAE is only as strong as the people who participate, and that’s something our chapter does exceptionally well. Otherwise, we can’t wait to see you all at our first chapter meeting in September. Thank you for the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to learning from and working alongside all of you this year.

Lynndy Hedgcoth
President
