The Role
As the HVAC Technician, you will perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of building heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and controls. Perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment to include, chillers, freezers, refrigerators, coolers, etc. Confer with supervisor/s regarding all aspects of assigned duties and communicate with university campus partners. Access information utilizing computers. Promote a workplace culture that encourages safety within the shop and in the field. Operate a university vehicle to transport materials, tools, and equipment.
The Day to Day:
Monitor, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, trend, adjust, and input schedules for all HVAC systems utilizing the automated control system.
Perform maintenance and repair work on commercial and residential HVAC systems including, but not limited to, air handlers, water pumps, cooling towers, ice machines, pneumatics and digital controls, refrigeration equipment, boilers, and chiller units.
Inspect and perform routine preventative maintenance work on HVAC equipment including changing filters, belts, oil, etc.
Troubleshoot and maintain mechanical systems, including, but not limited to, start system, observe operation, read gauges and instruments, and adjust mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps that control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in systems.
Work from aerial lift and elevated platforms.
Install, repair and replace minor ductwork as needed.
Replace water pumps, water pump motors, pump couplers, and greasing bearings; align shafts on pumps.
Perform maintenance and repair tasks on return fans, exhaust fans, purge and hood fans.
Read blueprints and drawings to determine routing of HVAC systems to perform troubleshooting.
What we would like to see from you:
A High School Diploma or equivalent with four (4) years of documented commercial or higher education HVAC experience and a certification from a recognized HVAC trade school or a mechanical contractor’s license/certification are required.
HVAC maintenance experience beyond that required for the position may be substituted for the required education, technical training, or apprenticeship.
Highly motivated team player with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships, communicate effectively, as well as proactively solve problems.
Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications, the use of an automated computerized work order system, as well as use of preventative maintenance software.
Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend instructions, schematics, blueprints, and diagrams, as well as experience operating and maintaining trade tools.
Preferred:
Experience working with Metasys control systems (Johnson Controls) is highly preferred.
Hands-on experience with hydronic systems, hot and cold water systems, and air handler systems.
Ability to change out and maintain motors, belts, filters, actuators, and thermostats.
