Event Details, per the Seattle Collaborative:
“Join the Seattle Collaborative on Tuesday, April 4th as we welcome architect, sustainability consultant, activist, and author Kjell Anderson in a discussion about how early energy modeling can and should revolutionize the way we design buildings. Kjell, a longtime leader in the sustainable design community, is the author of Design Energy Simulation for Architects. His innovative work in sustainable design has led him to be the keynote speaker at the 2016 ASHRAE/IBPSA Simbuild Conference.
Geared towards architects, engineers, energy modelers, and sustainability consultants, this exciting session will cover the emerging field of early energy modeling from the Architect’s perspective. Architects need to be leading the energy efforts to fulfill our 2030 Commitment goals, but too often pawn this leadership off on our mechanical engineers. There are emerging methods that allow Architects to explore passive design options to reduce first cost, but we need to know how to look for them.
Advancing material from his keynote at the ASHRAE/IBPSA Simbuild conference in 2016, Kjell will cover early energy modeling efforts that have proven efficiency measures that are cost-neutral, as well as techniques that the design and modeling professions need to learn in order to get the most use out of early modeling collaboration. He will also provide insight into forthcoming ASHRAE 209 Standard for modeling and IBPSA Subcommittee work on a menu for early modeling outputs that are graphic, pithy, and communicative.”
