Energy analyst

Rushing is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized, self-driven energy analyst to join our team.

Rushing’s Energy Studio is an established thought leader in projects at the cutting edge of high-performance building design as well as the development of local energy codes. Integrative design is not a check box at Rushing; it’s a fundamental part of the Energy Studio’s culture to work hand in hand with design teams, providing a practical approach to projects.

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a mid to senior level energy analyst to support our team in generating energy studies for code compliance, utility incentives and green building protocol certifications. Strong candidates will bring a proactive attitude to the team, be able to function independently as well as collaborate on a team level, manage multiple projects and contribute to the growth of Rushing.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Engage as a critical team member, performing energy use analyses on a range of building types, including: multifamily mid-rise and high-rise, affordable housing, hotels, office, public works and other commercial facilities.
-Energy analysis using energy modeling tools and spreadsheet calculations.
-Coordinate with architects on building envelope thermal performance, and completion of building envelope compliance calculations.
-Collaboration with design team on building and systems design decisions to support project’s energy targets.
-Building energy code compliance modeling and documentation.
-Green building certification program compliance and documentation, including LEED, Living Building Challenge, Passive House, Built Green and others.
-Assign tasks to project team members, receive assignments and share energy simulation technical expertise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering or a related field.
-4+ years’ experience in Energy simulation using eQUEST, IES-Virtual Environment or OpenStudio/EnergyPlus, including experience with quality control processes and verification of model inputs and results.
-Experience developing side-calculations or workarounds for measures that cannot be explicitly modeled an energy modeling tools.
-Working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 and energy codes.
-Experience writing custom macros utilizing Microsoft Excel and/or other text editing software.
-Experience with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam and Revit.
-Organizational skills.
-Verbal, written and visual communication skills, including presenting complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
-Demonstrated success managing client relationships, staff and projects.
-Collaborative approach to problem solving with internal and external team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Experience with Seattle and Washington State energy code and local utility incentives.
-Experience with financial analysis, including life cycle cost, simple payback, ROI, etc.
-Experience in sustainable design / LEED AP or similar.
-Experience with Passive House design principles and/or certification.
-Experience with California Title 24 energy code compliance and modeling, including CBECC-Comm or Energy Pro.
