Hydronics as a solution to achieve Electrification and Decarbonization

Presentation Abstract:  Refrigerant transition towards low GWP and A2L class refrigerants is a key topic in HVAC market today. This presentation will explore a system-wide approach for application of centralized heating/cooling plants, centralized ventilation and terminal units leveraging low-temperature heating and high-temperature cooling to achieve a comfortable low-carbon HVAC system.  An overview on chilled beams will be provided, highlighting how they can be leveraged to optimize efficiency of overall hydronic system and improving thermal comfort and IAQ, and how integrated design with respect to the ventilation system and central heating/cooling plant must be considered.  The presentation will conclude with a case study project where low-temperature heating and high-temperature cooling was leveraged to provide a low-carbon design without sacrificing indoor air quality, thermal comfort or energy efficiency.

Speaker Bio:

 

Chris DesRoches, P.Eng. is Business Development Manager – Heating & Cooling at Swegon North America.  Chris has over fifteen years of experience in the HVAC industry in all aspects from Product Development and Testing to Sales and Service. Chris holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Chris is a subject matter expert on hydronic heat pump solutions.  Chris has been an active ASHRAE member since 2012, recently elected as a Distinguished Lecturer (DL), has presented at numerous Canadian and US chapter meetings and conferences.
