As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be performing a wide array of aviation-related mechanical design, planning, asset management, construction support, and inter-department client services at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

You will review and advises on large capital and mechanical infrastructure project design and system evaluation including quality assurance and conformity to Port, local, state, and federal standards, applicable codes, and best practices.
You will review project design drawings for coordination of mechanical infrastructure systems with other major capital projects and programs and with expansion of existing systems.
You will review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for sponsored mechanical infrastructure capital and expense projects.
You will conduct design reviews, construction inspection, testing, commissioning, activation, and acceptance of mechanical systems.
You will coordinate design input from various parties, including internal team members and external consultants; and reflect the design input into design documents and drawings
You will develop, coordinate, and prepare presentations of technical information to stakeholders to include airlines, tenants, airport staff and Port of Seattle executive leaders.
You will assist maintenance staff on the installation, troubleshooting, replacement and operation of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment.
You will conduct assessments of existing facilities and prepare mechanical system condition assessment reports. Identify and communicate ideas and plans for remediation of system deficiencies including opportunities for improving system control and performances.
You will develop project scope for asset renewal and replacement. Coordinate asset renewal and replacement plan with airport development plans.
You will identify projects to mitigate threats from all natural and manmade hazards and develop plans to ensure continuous reliable operations.
You will review and make determinations on modification requests to existing mechanical infrastructure and conduct infrastructure review meetings for internal stakeholders.
You will develop and maintain airport standards and procedures with respect to design and installation of mechanical equipment and systems.
You will develop mechanical system design, installation and operations that supports the Port of Seattle’s sustainability initiatives, practices, and environmental stewardship.
You will identify and implement solutions that enhance comfort, reduce costs, prolong asset lifespans, optimize uptime, save energy and water, and lower carbon emissions.
You will provide mentorship, career development and training of junior mechanical engineers.

Who you are:
Experienced – You have ten (10) years of experience in the design, installation, and/or asset management of mechanical systems and infrastructure and have a current State of Washington Professional Engineer License.
Educated – You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from ABET accredited school.
Desired – We hope you have Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and fifteen (15) years of experience in mechanical infrastructure system planning, design, construction and/or maintenance at commercial airports, military aviation facilities, or similar large complex campus environments.

Technical Expertise – We’d like you to have considerable expertise working with HVAC and plumbing systems, including boilers, steam and steam condensate, chillers, central plants, district energy, heat exchangers, heat pumps, pre-conditioned air, refrigeration, coolers and freezers, fans, smoke control, kitchen exhaust, pumps, hydronic piping, water heaters, fuel and natural gas, grease waste, compressed air, metering, direct digital controls, and other facility mechanical systems.
Effective Communicator – You are very skilled in both verbal and written communication techniques and can effectively work with clients at all levels of the organization.
Collaborator – You are someone who can work with diverse internal and external stakeholders at various levels of the organization to build relationships and resolve problems while providing excellent guidance and customer service.
Leadership – You’re able to provide sound judgment and help create and lead successful solutions, while managing through conflict, change and a variety of leadership styles and priorities.

What else you need to know:
Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies. Infrequent work during nights or weekends may also be required. Regular predictable attendance is required. Some telework is available in this role.
Work Environment – You will primarily work in an office environment. You will also visit mechanical/electrical spaces, utility tunnels, active construction sites, and outdoors while working frequently near operating equipment such as boilers, chillers, fans, pumps, baggage handling equipment, tugs, and planes.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement – Effective, November 15, 2021, the Port of Seattle will require that at the time of hire, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be able to provide proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination status, as part of the hiring process. Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You may also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
